This past September, I was walking through Union Square in NYC on my way to my photography class and I walked past a performer on the street. I'm used to seeing people on the sidewalks singing, dancing or showing their talents in some artistic creative way. But this performer in particular was enough to make me stop in my tracks and listen to her melodic voice as she sang "Stand Tall". Her name is Chloe Temtchine and I had never heard someone's voice sound so passionate and captivating. I immediately became her biggest fan! Since then, I've had the pleasure of meeting her (she's such a sweet down to earth person) and I've been to several of her shows. She is a new up and coming artist but she has been singing from a very young age. I can't describe technically what her music sounds like. I can only describe the I feel when I listen to her music. My favorite songs have to be "Unspoken" and "Break Over Me". It puts me in a zone, her lyrics speak to my heart, and the rhythm is fluid making you bob your head slowly and close your eyes to feel the beat.
Last Wednesday, I went to see her perform at the Rockwood Music Hall and shot some photos of her as she rocked the crowd. Take a look!
Annnnd, did I mention she beatboxes in one of her songs. She's pretty good. How's that for versatility!
She's a natural on stage and has a fun personality.
If you're looking for music that is new and refreshing; I strongly suggest checking her out.
Speaking of new and refreshing, I would not do this post justice if I didn't mention the other performers from that night. First up Zach Hurd. What a cool guy and very funny. He connected with the crowd before he even began his first song. His music has a style similar to John Mayer or James Taylor; with colorful lyrics and unique song melodies.
He performed "Do Your Thing" which had the crowd singing along with him.
And finally, another artist to watch for who blew me away with her powerful voice was Caitlin Krisko & The Broadcast. I dare you to sample just one of her songs (might I suggest Fading Changes) and see if you are not completely moved by her music.
Check out her passion and emotion; her voice truly resonates throughout the room.
I love the way Caitlin and her band gelled together so smoothly; everyone was in sync and complimented each other perfectly.
THIS is my favorite photo. Look how Caitlin and her pianist felt the music so much that they exuded the same body language.
I really hold a true appreciation for each one of the artist I've mentioned here in my post. Not only are they extremely talented and possess a unique style of music that I love, but I admire them as true artists. My goal as a photographer is to capture genuine emotion by seeing through to your heart. And thats what I saw when I photographed these artists that night; I saw their passion which brought out their soul. They were able to touch the heart of others with their music which to me is truly a beautiful thing.
