Christmas of 1987

It was December 1987,  I was around 6 years old.  A big snow storm had just passed and I remember there was snow on the ground everywhere.  It was beautiful; the Bronx was transformed into a Christmas wonderland :).  Snow on the ground, on top of parked cars, and benches glistened so magically.  That day my family and I went to pick out our Christmas tree.  It was the biggest tree in the lot!  My mom, dad, brother and I each grabbed a section of the tree and lugged it home.  We took a shortcut through a nearby park and to this day I remember how beautiful everything looked covered in snow.

That year, I woke up on Christmas morning, ran down the hallway to the living room to see the one thing I had been wishing for all Barbie Dream House.  All two stories stood proudly next to the Christmas tree with a big shiny red bow on the front.  I yelled, I screamed, I jumped up and down excitedly for my new toy!  Nothing else existed; it was just me and my Barbie Dream House.  It was the best Christmas ever.  I thanked my mom and dad and hugged them tightly.   They stood from the doorway of the living room and watched with grateful smiles on their faces; looking on as wrapping paper was tossed in the air while my brother and I played with our new Christmas toys.

To this day I still talk about that Christmas morning with my family; I'll never forget it.  It wasn't until years later my mom told me how she and my dad stayed up the night before assembling my Barbie dream house to have it ready for me for Christmas :).  Sigh...the things parents do for their kids :).  So amazing.

That Christmas memory of 1987 will always stay with me.  But tomorrow, I'll see the smiling faces from aunts and uncles, nephews and cousins running around playing with their new Christmas toys, the hugs, the laughter, and the joy of being with my family.  Cheers to creating new memories of Christmas 2010!

Have a wonderful Christmas everyone!
