Inspiration Mondays: Be Grateful

Just yesterday evening my mom, bf, and I sat around in the living room and had a conversation about being grateful.  Ok, so let me back up; here's where it all started. We all had just finished watching the movie The Secret; some of you may have either seen the movie or read the book.  It basically talks about the Law of Attraction, which says that anything you could ever want in this world can be yours if you ask and have faith it will come to you.

The other part of that equation is being grateful for everything that you currently have in your life.  Everything from the roof over your head to chicken noodle soup :).  Most of us know how important it is to always remain thankful and never take anything for granted.  But somehow, subconsciously, we may find ourselves pining over items that we don't have i.e a bigger car, not enough money in the bank, those new shoes you saw in Cosmo magazine, or that new camera lens that just came out - swoon (I'm just sayin...)! :)

But the thing is that when our attention is focused on what we don't have, how can we ever make room for life to continue to bless us with the things we want or deserve?  It's about constantly reminding yourself at every moment of the day how thankful you are for life and the opportunity to live it in the way you always dreamed.

Today, as I strolled home from work, I looked up at the sky and noticed the beautifully shaped clouds with a tinge of an orange pinkish hue from the setting sun.  It reminded me of this moment last year in Jamaica.  The site, sound, smell all came rushing back to me in an instant.  Forever grateful for this peaceful serene moment.

"Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
