Mission Accomplished | Street Portrait Challenge RESULTS | Union Square NYC

I’m so excited to bring you today’s post!  The Street Portrait Challenge!  Yes!  Words cannot describe how joyful I am at the turnout of this awesome event.  For those of you who may not know, on June 18th a group of photographers from NYC and across the nation and myself participated in my Street Portrait Challenge.  We photographers took to the streets and approached perfect strangers to take their portraits.  Scary!  Yes, I know!  But I couldn’t be more proud of all the brave souls who despite their fears and nervousness joined me in this challenge.  Mwah!! Kisses and hugs to you all!   This Challenge was an exercise in strength, determination, but most of all confidence.

On a busy Saturday afternoon in the summer heat at Union Square Park NYC, the area was just beaming with characters.  I could just feel the vibrant energy all around me as I nervously approached my first person to be photographed.

Because I loved her colorful hair piece...

Because I secretly want to learn to ride a skateboard...

Because who doesn't need a hug now and then...?

Because I loved his friendly piercing blue eyes...

Because I'm a dog lover at heart...Hi Boe and Esther (so cute)!!

Because of his kick-ass tattoo's...

Because he's a groovey kinda guy and I love tie dye...

Because we are all artists...

Because she had an awesome accent...

Because...well...he just looks so darn fashionable...!

I am so grateful to have met each and every person I photographed that day.  I realized that we live in such a huge universe filled with people that are no different from ourselves.  This challenge gave the opportunity for photographers to interact with individuals in a way that specifically brought out trust, vulnerability, and creativity.

While putting this event together, I mentioned it to some of my favorite people, some of whom are leaders in the photography field.  I want to say a special thank you from the bottom of my heart to the following people for supporting this idea, you all helped make this event a success:

MeRa Koh, thank you for believing in me and helping this Challenge go nationwide.

To Rob for all your love, constant support, and for being the best camera man a gal can ask for :). And last but not least, my mom, who jumped up and down excitedly when I told her about my idea to put this event together.  She's always there to help me bring my dreams into reality.

And to everyone who participated in this challenge, you took on this assignment and totally rocked it; I am super proud of you.  Cheers to conquering our fears and stepping outside of our comfort zones!  If you're one of the photographers that joined us in this challenge, I want to hear about your experiences.  Any new revelations?  Did you meet anyone in particular that resonated with you?  What personal accomplishments did you get from this exercise? Any stories you have to share about your experiences?  Tell me alllll about it :)!  Also, I will be leading a discussion on MeRa Koh's SOAR! Forum this evening at 8pm EST (5pm PST) to talk with everyone about the portrait challenge if you want to join!

And for those of you who weren't able to participate this time around, I have more events like this planned for the future. I hope that you are all encouraged to come out and participate with us!

See Beauty…
