10 Tips to Looking Absolutely Beautiful in Your Photos

10 Tips to Looking Absolutely Beautiful in Your Photos

A few days ago, I posted a new profile picture to Facebook.

Within the first 5 minutes of posting, I got 1, 3, 5, 10 likes and within just a few hours, my photo got over 100 likes and nearly 30 comments.  Comments poured in that read: “beautiful!, “gorgeous!, stunning!” I was floored, then I became intrigued. What was it about my profile picture and pictures in general that generate such a high response from our friends and colleagues? I noticed this same phenomenon when a recent photo client of mine posted her headshots.  Here she is:

Street Portrait Challenge; Are You Up For It? | Personal Growth | NYC Street Photography

Back in December 2009, I took on a new challenge; it was an experience that changed me forever.  Some of you may have seen this before, but for those of you who haven't, I invite you to see where it all began :).

I showed this video to you because I wanted to share with you a pivotal moment in my photography career and personal life where I was taken out of my comfort zone into a situation that has helped to define my character.  After a bit of self-reflection recently, I came to a conclusion...it's time to do this again!  But this time, I want you all to come along with me and have this experience for yourselves.

Portrait Challenge!

If at this point you hear a little voice inside you giving you every reason not to try this, just know that that is exactly why you SHOULD.  The very same voice tried to talk me out of putting this whole thing together, but I know that is the "fear" talking and not my heart.  I encourage you to come out on June 18th to participate with us, face your fears, and see your potential for awesomeness!

Rob (Part II), Underground Soul | Portraits | NYC Subway

My new muse never ceases to inspire me.  Our second shoot together and Rob completely wow’d me with his transformation skills.

I like to call this one Underground Soul mainly because the first part of the session was in the NYC subway station.  It’s actually the train station near my home.  Who knew this little area had so much potential to make interesting pictures.    And number two, the name Underground Soul relates to the mood of the scene to match his expression which is a bit soulful and contemplative.

Rob is an artist through and through.  Music runs through his veins especially when it comes to Classical music.

The images you just saw is part of my running series that I call Art & Soul.  It will be a mixture of inspired style, substance, and personality to portray images that evoke moods and various expressions.  If you’d like to participate in this series as my assistant or model, please feel free to contact me.  I’d love to have you :).

Your Story: VaNessa & Winslow

Look at this beautiful couple below...sometimes a picture alone is not enough to tell their story. Photojournalism is one way of using an image to tell a story.  But, for one moment, imagine viewing the photograph above....is their a particular melody or song that comes to mind?  What can you imagine these two saying to each other?  Imagine a fusion of crafted music and words that tell a unique story and add personal dimension. Please join me in experiencing VaNessa & Winslow's engagement to each other.  Enjoy! [vimeo 14578103] Thank you VaNessa & Winslow for letting me in at such an exciting time in your life.  Your story was both touching and inspiring. I'm so happy to see this project come to life in the way I envisioned it!  And from the bottom of my heart I'd like to thank my business partner and sweetie, Rob Thony for his involvement in this project.  The soundtrack you heard throughout the slide show was composed and arranged by him.* I invite you to please leave your comments and feedback on "Your Story" and if you have a story you'd like to share, we'd love to hear from you! :) See Beauty... Phil Roberts: Architectural Lifestyle

At the age of 7 or 8 years old, Phil Roberts had budding desire to design and build major cities like Toronto, NYC, LA you name it!  For hours he would sit and build models of cities based on pictures he had seen and places he'd been. As he put it "I would tend to my cities like a gardener tends to plants".  Phil was kind of enough to share one of his pictures that was taken back in the day of one of his first city models when he was around 8 years old; not bad huh?!! I loved it! His amazement and fascination with designing and developing layout plans for urban dwellings made an impact on me.  Creativity comes in all shapes and forms.  His passion never left him as he is now studying architecture at the University of Toronto. Phil contacted me to setup a session to document him in scenic locations around NYC to capture his love for architecture and document a bit of his lifestyle. We set out to the heart of Manhattan to places like Bryant Park, Times Square, and The Highline and experienced the city like never before.  We walked around 42nd street and he was completely immersed in the surroundings of colorful billboards and uniquely designed skyscrapers. He finds comfort and solitude with a good book and swarms of people buzzing around him in Times Square! Couldn't you just see him on the cover of Architectural Digest? :) And a little fun with the yellowest revolving door ever! Thanks Phil for giving me a little peek into the world of architecture; I admire your passion and have no doubt you'll go far in your career. See Beauty... Ariane

Playing With The Sun

Around dusk, the sun was setting and Brooklyn Bridge park was full of energy, warm air, and the sound of the east river nearby.  I realized the simple beauty of sunlight against the face can really illuminate a persons spirit.  It casts a warm hue that bathes the skin and reveals a silhouette.  With that, I wanted to see if I could capture what I was seeing with my own eyes. Meet Rob everyone.  He occasionally (and sometimes reluctantly lol jk) plays the role of my model when I'm shooting casually.  Say CHEESE honey! :) More sunlight with a hint of glare....mwah! Happy Wednesday!
